Relationship AdviceDeciding Whether Or Not To Take A Relationship To The Next Level After dating someone for several months, it is safe to say, that you more than likely know whether or not you would like to take your relationship with them; to the next level. You have spent time together and have gotten to know each other pretty well. You both know your roles within the relationship. You are able to communicate with each other and to both do your part to ensure that the relationship works. Making the decision of whether to move forward in a relationship or not can be difficult. However, there is no reason that it should be. There are several simple questions that you can answer to determine whether it would be a good idea to move your relationship ahead or not. These are things, that you need to know about your partner, no matter what the decision is about moving forward or not. The answers to these questions can determine whether the relationship moves forward or if it needs to be ended right away. At the same time, this gives you an opportunity to evaluate yourself in the relationship. If you have problems with any of the following things, you may need to take a look at yourself and how ready you are to be in a serious relationship. If you find that perhaps you may not be ready, it is important to discuss your thoughts and feelings with your partner. Communication is the key to a successful relationship. The first question that needs to be asked is how do your partners morals compare to yours? Some components of morals include character in a person, integrity levels, and if a person is honest. If your partner lies, exaggerates, cheats, ignores the welfare of others, or steals there should be definite red flags about their morals. Chances are you will not be very compatible if you are with someone that has morals like that if you are honest and have integrity. If there are major differences, you both need to sit down and have a long, heartfelt discussion. People on separate ends of the moral spectrum are very incompatible and prone to serious relationship problems. Next, you need to ask if the long-term wants and needs of you and your partner are the same or at least have some similarities between them. People often enter into relationships with false ideals. They believe that once they are committed to each other they can change their partners long-term goals. While it is true that people can change, if a person is dead set on not having children and you are, there is no point in entering into a serious relationship with them. You will be missing out on what is important to you and risking the relationship if you move forward. Finally, it is important to ask if there are any addictions that need to be taken care of. There are many forms of addictions. However, in terms of a relationship it means behaviors that have a negative affect on a partner’s work, relationships, or overall well being. While you probably know that you should avoid relationships with drug abusers, it is very common to enter into a relationship where one partner may have dependency on something in life. Often this includes things such as food, pornography, nicotine, gambling, or exercise. If you find that these problems exist in your relationship, you need to seriously consider whether the relationship should continue or not. People that are dependent on things have serious problems and need active recovery. Often, if they are in a relationship they do not have to be solely dependent on themselves and recovery is unlikely to happen.
